About this ranking
Renewable energy used for heating and cooling, including biomass, solar heat and ambient heat captured by heat pumps, as a percentage of gross final energy consumption for heating and cooling.
Calculated under the Renewable Energy Directive (Eurostat SHARES tool), which normalises hydro and wind output and counts some biofuels and renewable electricity in transport more than once. Not comparable with renewable shares published by the IEA or the US EIA.
Every value in the ranking comes from the same publisher and the same period, so the EU countries are compared on one definition. Equal values share a rank.
