About this ranking

Inequality of income or consumption per person among households on a 0 to 100 scale, where 0 is perfect equality. World Bank Poverty and Inequality Platform estimates from national household surveys, published only for survey years.

Many countries, especially in Africa and Asia, measure consumption, which is more equal than income, and incomes are per person rather than equivalised. Not comparable with the Eurostat gini_index; compare countries within this series only.

Every value in the ranking comes from the same publisher and the same period, so the EU countries are compared on one definition. 1 EU countries with data in other periods have no value for 2018 and are left out rather than filled from another source. Equal values share a rank.
