About this ranking

Marriages during the year per 1,000 residents (average population of the year). EU countries: marriages registered in the country, as compiled by Eurostat.

Marriages are counted where they take place, so places where many non-residents marry (Cyprus, Denmark) have high rates. Some countries count same-sex marriages and others do not, and registered partnerships are not marriages.

Every value in the ranking comes from the same publisher and the same period, so the EU countries are compared on one definition. Equal values share a rank.
