Definition
Quarterly revenue of employer firms in selected service industries, total (NAICS 22, 48-49, 51, 52, 53, 54, 56, 61, 62, 71, 721 and 81) in the United States, in millions of US dollars at current prices, seasonally adjusted. Excludes government owned utilities, rail transportation (NAICS 482), postal service (491), funds, trusts and other financial vehicles (525), offices of notaries (54112), elementary and secondary schools, junior colleges, colleges and universities (6111 to 6113), religious organizations (8131), labor unions (81393), political organizations (81394) and private households (814). Census Bureau Quarterly Services Survey.
Operating revenue of employer firms in the industry, from the Quarterly Services Survey: what the industry sells, not what households spend. Values are quarterly, not annual rates. Census warns that the seasonal factors rest on a short series and can be revised a lot; for year-on-year comparisons the not seasonally adjusted figures are steadier. Not adjusted for price changes.
