Finnish municipalities: 31 December, as published by Statistics Finland. Canada: 1 July, Statistics Canada population estimates. Australia: 30 June, ABS estimated resident population. World Bank figures for other countries and the World refer to mid-year.
How it is calculated
Invokely calculation: residents aged 65 and over divided by total population for the same year and place. Spain: both from the INE annual census. United States: Census Bureau county estimates by age; states and the nation are sums of their counties. Switzerland: the eight Federal Statistical Office age classes from 65-69 to 100 or older, summed, over the permanent resident population.
