Região Autónoma dos Açores had the highest transport accident death rate (age-standardised) of 234 regions in 2015, at 23.3 per 100,000 people. Stockholm had the lowest, at 1.5 per 100,000 people. About this ranking
Deaths from [object Object] (ICD-10 V01 to V99 and Y85) per 100,000 inhabitants, age-standardised to the revised European Standard Population of 2013. Both sexes, all ages, by place of residence (Eurostat causes of death statistics).
Counted from death certificates by place of residence, so values differ from police counts of road deaths. road_traffic_death_rate (WHO) is an estimate without age standardisation. Age standardisation removes the effect of different age structures, so EU countries and regions can be compared with each other. US age-adjusted rates use the 2000 US standard population and are not comparable with these. Death certification and cause coding differ between countries, and Eurostat flags some values as following a different definition. Eurostat publishes these rates about two and a half years after the reference year.
Every value in the ranking comes from the same publisher and the same period, so the regions are compared on one definition. 10 regions with data in other periods have no value for 2015 and are left out rather than filled from another source. Equal values share a rank.
