About this ranking
Deaths from [object Object] (ICD-10 V01 to V99 and Y85) per 100,000 inhabitants, age-standardised to the revised European Standard Population of 2013. Both sexes, all ages, by place of residence (Eurostat causes of death statistics).
Counted from death certificates by place of residence, so values differ from police counts of road deaths. road_traffic_death_rate (WHO) is an estimate without age standardisation. Age standardisation removes the effect of different age structures, so EU countries and regions can be compared with each other. US age-adjusted rates use the 2000 US standard population and are not comparable with these. Death certification and cause coding differ between countries, and Eurostat flags some values as following a different definition. Eurostat publishes these rates about two and a half years after the reference year.
Every value in the ranking comes from the same publisher and the same period, so the autonomous communities are compared on one definition. 1 autonomous communities with data in other periods have no value for 2023 and are left out rather than filled from another source. Equal values share a rank.
