About this ranking

Total spending in the year by residents of the country aged 15 and over on tourism trips of one night or more, for personal or business reasons, to destinations in the country and abroad: transport, accommodation, food and drink and other spending, excluding durable and valuable goods. Euro at current prices (Eurostat survey of tourism trips by residents).

Spending by a country's residents wherever they travel, not spending by visitors in the country. Day trips are not included. Countries outside the euro area report in their own currency and Eurostat converts the amounts to euro, so exchange rate moves affect them. Eurostat marks breaks in the national surveys.

Every value in the ranking comes from the same publisher and the same period, so the EU countries are compared on one definition. 1 EU countries with data in other periods have no value for 2023 and are left out rather than filled from another source. Equal values share a rank.
