About this ranking

Owner-occupied housing units as a percentage of all occupied housing units. United States: American Community Survey five-year estimate, where the period shown is the last year of the five-year span.

Counts households (occupied housing units), not people. The ACS five-year rate differs from the quarterly homeownership rate of the Census Bureau Housing Vacancies and Homeownership survey (CPS/HVS), the usual national headline figure. EU home ownership rates count people living in owner-occupied dwellings, so they are not comparable. Calculated from counts in ACS table B25003, which are stored as inputs.

Every value in the ranking comes from the same publisher and the same period, so the states are compared on one definition. Equal values share a rank.
