About this ranking
Spending on electricity sold to ultimate customers in all sectors, valued at retail prices, in millions of current US dollars. U.S. Energy Information Administration, State Energy Data System (series ESTCV).
Built from Form EIA-861 retail sales and prices; close to electricity_retail_revenue_usd, but SEDS may adjust it and revises it on its own schedule. Millions of current US dollars, not adjusted for inflation. An EIA State Energy Data System estimate: consumption of each fuel times its estimated price. Hydro, wind and solar power have no fuel cost and count only through the electricity they produce. The latest year is about 18 months old, and EIA revises earlier years with each release.
Every value in the ranking comes from the same publisher and the same period, so the states are compared on one definition. Equal values share a rank.
