Definition
Estimated number of new single-family houses sold in the quarter with VA financing reported at the original sales agreement or deposit. The category records the reported financing type, not the number of VA loans finalized at closing.
A sale is counted when a contract is signed or a deposit is accepted, even before construction starts; Census does not wait for closing. Financing is recorded at that first agreement or deposit, and later changes are not reflected. FHA and VA estimates may differ from agency loan totals. Census marks the newest quarterly release as preliminary and revises the prior quarter.
