Real estate equity attributed to U.S. households, in millions of dollars at quarter end. The Financial Accounts Guide computes it as household owner-occupied real estate at market value minus one-to-four-family residential mortgage liabilities of the combined households and nonprofit organizations sector.

The Federal Reserve Series Analyzer defines this as FL155035015 minus FL153165105. The mortgage input covers households and nonprofit organizations, while the reported equity series is labeled for households. The series is a net balance and can in principle be negative. These are end-of-period balances in millions of current U.S. dollars and are not seasonally adjusted. S1M.b covers households and nonprofit organizations together, including farm households; its sector note also includes private equity funds, personal trusts, and domestic hedge funds through 2012:Q3. It is not a household-only measure unless the indicator name says so. The first available observation is 1945:Q4; observations are annual at year end through 1951 and quarterly from 1952:Q1. Missing quarters remain missing and are not interpolated by this dataset. Valuation basis varies by item: real estate and marketable securities are at market value, while consumer durables and other nonfinancial assets use replacement or current cost. Totals and component rows overlap; memo items such as 529 plan assets are already included in total assets. Federal Reserve releases may revise historical values or methods, which can affect comparisons over time.
