Definition

Value of goods the United States imported from the place, as reported by the U.S. Census Bureau: general imports at customs value, Census basis, not seasonally adjusted, in millions of US dollars. Each month and each calendar year, by country of origin.

The place is the trading partner and the figures are US records. Customs value leaves out freight and insurance to the United States, and the country of origin is where the goods were made, not where they were shipped from, so the partner's own export figures can differ a lot. Goods only, without services.
