Definition
Seasonally adjusted balance of US consumer credit outstanding at the end of each month, in USD million. It covers most credit extended to individuals for household, family and personal spending, including revolving and nonrevolving credit, and excludes loans secured by real estate (Federal Reserve G.19).
This is an outstanding balance, not new credit extended during the month, and does not measure all household debt. Published levels may contain breaks from source or method changes; the Federal Reserve adjusts its published flows and growth rates for those breaks. The latest preliminary release value is marked provisional. Revisions replace prior values while retaining their history.
