Deaths from [object Object] (ICD-10 X60 to X84 and Y87.0) per 100,000 inhabitants, age-standardised to the revised European Standard Population of 2013. Both sexes, all ages, by place of residence (Eurostat causes of death statistics).

suicide_rate (WHO) is a crude rate adjusted by WHO for under-reporting, so the two series differ. Age standardisation removes the effect of different age structures, so EU countries and regions can be compared with each other. US age-adjusted rates use the 2000 US standard population and are not comparable with these. Death certification and cause coding differ between countries, and Eurostat flags some values as following a different definition. Eurostat publishes these rates about two and a half years after the reference year.
