Definition

US monthly average retail price of regular gasoline, all formulations, including taxes, in nominal US dollars per US gallon. The Energy Information Administration calculates monthly averages from its weekly retail price survey.

A national monthly average, not a price for every state or a weekly pump quote. Regular gasoline differs from midgrade, premium and diesel. Early missing observations are not filled; historical values can be revised.
