Definition

The value of private construction put in place for new single-family houses and townhouses built to be sold or rented, including units built by an owner or for an owner under contract. It excludes manufactured housing, houseboats, and residential units in primarily nonresidential buildings.

Monthly value of private construction put in place, in current U.S. dollars. Census publishes the seasonally adjusted series at an annual rate and in millions of dollars; the annual rate is not a forecast and the estimates are not adjusted for price changes. This detailed category follows Census construction classifications and may be a component of a broader C30 total. The current month is preliminary and may be revised as more data arrive.
