Definition

Median gross weekly pay, in pounds sterling, of full-time employees living in an area, from the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) of the Office for National Statistics. Full-time means working more than 30 paid hours a week (25 or more for teaching professions). Pay relates to one pay period in April each year (the one that includes 30 April in 2025 and 17 April in 2024). Nominal pounds of each year, not adjusted for inflation. United Kingdom regions and local authorities, grouped by where employees live.

The place is where the employee lives, which can differ from where the job is: see median_weekly_earnings_full_time_workplace_gbp for place of work. Gross pay before tax, not disposable income. The ONS marks the latest year provisional and revises it the next year, and warns that data from 2023 onwards might not be directly comparable with 2022 because of methodological changes. Nomis suppresses figures it calls statistically unreliable.
