Number of dwelling units in building work approved in the month: new houses, other new residential buildings, dwellings created by alterations, additions or conversions, and dwellings in non-residential buildings, all sectors, original (not seasonally adjusted). ABS Building Approvals, for Australia, the six states and the two territories.

Counts approvals, not construction starts or completions, and some approved dwellings are never built. Monthly and not seasonally adjusted, so it is not comparable with the annual US building_permit_units or with the seasonally adjusted figures in the ABS release.
