About this ranking
Deaths from [object Object] (ICD-10 A00 to Y89) per 100,000 inhabitants, age-standardised to the revised European Standard Population of 2013. Both sexes, all ages, by place of residence (Eurostat causes of death statistics).
For 2018 to 2021 Eurostat publishes the total under the code A-R_V-Y (all causes excluding S00 to T98, injury codes that are never an underlying cause); Invokely serves both codes as one series. For deaths per 1,000 people without age standardisation use crude_death_rate. Age standardisation removes the effect of different age structures, so EU countries and regions can be compared with each other. US age-adjusted rates use the 2000 US standard population and are not comparable with these. Death certification and cause coding differ between countries, and Eurostat flags some values as following a different definition. Eurostat publishes these rates about two and a half years after the reference year.
Every value in the ranking comes from the same publisher and the same period, so the regions are compared on one definition. Equal values share a rank.
