About this ranking

Value added of the ICT sector as a percentage of the gross value added of the whole economy.

More on how it is measured
  • The ICT sector follows the OECD definition: ICT manufacturing (electronic components, computers, communication and consumer electronics equipment) and ICT services (ICT wholesale, software publishing, telecommunications, computer programming and consultancy, data processing and hosting, repair of computers and communication equipment).
  • Eurostat, from structural business statistics and national accounts.

Counts the industries that make ICT goods and services, not ICT jobs in other industries: ict_specialists_employment_share counts ICT occupations. From 2021 the sector's value added is measured at basic prices instead of factor cost, and Eurostat flags a break. Ireland's share is several times the EU average because large multinationals book their value added there.

Every value in the ranking comes from the same publisher and the same period, so the EU countries are compared on one definition. 4 EU countries with data in other periods have no value for 2020 and are left out rather than filled from another source. Equal values share a rank.
