About this ranking

Monthly consumer confidence indicator of the European Commission business and consumer surveys (DG ECFIN), as published by Eurostat, seasonally adjusted.

More on how it is measured
  • It is the average of four balances: households' financial situation over the past 12 months and over the next 12 months, the general economic situation over the next 12 months, and plans for major purchases over the next 12 months.
  • Each balance is the percentage of positive answers minus the percentage of negative answers, in percentage points, so the indicator ranges from -100 to 100.

A balance of opinions in percentage points, not a percentage of people and not an index: 0 means as many positive as negative answers, and values below zero are usual. Seasonally adjusted. Comparable across EU countries, which use the same questionnaire. Not comparable with the Conference Board or University of Michigan indices for the United States, which Invokely does not carry.

Every value in the ranking comes from the same publisher and the same period, so the EU countries are compared on one definition. Equal values share a rank.
