Tourism direct share of GDP
Tourism direct GDP as a percentage of GDP: the part of GDP generated by industries in direct contact with visitors (hotels, restaurants, transport, travel agencies and others) as they serve visitors, measured with the country's tourism satellite account and reported to the OECD.
Value added by suppliers of the industries serving visitors is not included, so national headline figures that count it are higher: INE puts tourism at 12.6% of Spain's GDP in 2024, measured through all tourism final demand, while the direct share here is 6.0% for 2023. Spain's values before 2020 and France's before 2019 measured something else (the total contribution and tourism consumption) and are not served. Countries compile their accounts in different years, and Austria's series falls by a point in 2018 without a break flag.
