Definition

US average retail price of No. 2 heating oil delivered to homes, in US dollars per US gallon, from the U.S. Energy Information Administration State Heating Oil and Propane Program.

EIA surveys these prices only in the heating season, October to March, so most years have no April to September values; months outside the survey are never filled. The monthly value averages the weekly survey prices. Taxes are excluded. A national average, from October 1990. Nominal dollars, not adjusted for inflation. EIA revises recent months.
