Percentage change in the Price Index of Private Rents (PIPR) of the Office for National Statistics compared with the same month a year earlier. The index follows rents paid on new and existing private tenancies. Not seasonally adjusted. United Kingdom, its nations and English regions, and local authorities in England and Wales.

Rent inflation for sitting and new tenants together, so it moves more slowly than asking rents on new listings. It is not the actual rents component of consumer price inflation (CPI or CPIH), which also covers social housing.
