Definition

Estimated median sale price in nominal U.S. dollars for new single-family houses sold in the quarter with conventional financing reported at the original agreement or deposit. The median is the middle value in the estimated distribution of reported sale prices.

Prices are nominal dollars, not seasonally or inflation adjusted. The reported price is agreed at the first contract or deposit, includes the improved lot, and excludes later price changes and extras not in the original reported price. Census marks the newest quarterly release as preliminary and revises the prior quarter. Conventional financing is not guaranteed by a government agency. Census stopped collecting Rural Housing Service financing data, last published in 2007.
