Household interest-only debt service ratio

Statistics Canada's ratio of interest expense on new and outstanding Household sector debt to household disposable income before interest payments. It includes interest only, with no principal repayment in the numerator. The series is seasonally adjusted at annual rates and expressed as a percentage.

Statistics Canada's Household sector includes unincorporated enterprises operated by households and excludes NPISH. This aggregate ratio covers interest on debt generally, not only mortgage interest. Both interest-payment and income flows are annualized, so their ratio is served as published, without multiplying by four. It is not an average payment per household.
