State cigarette excise tax per pack
State excise tax on a pack of 20 cigarettes in force in the quarter, in US dollars, as recorded by the CDC STATE System from state statutes. A legal rate, not an estimate.
US states and DC only. Federal excise tax (1.01 USD per pack since 2009), local taxes such as those of New York City or Chicago, and sales taxes are not included. The STATE System records the fourth quarter of each year from 1995 to 2005 and every quarter from 2006. Increases enacted for a later date appear only once their quarter starts.
