Average price of electricity per kWh
Average retail price of electricity, per kilowatt hour, in US dollars, for the U.S. city average (all urban consumers), monthly, from the Average Price Data of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (series APU000072610).
BLS computes average prices from the prices it collects for the Consumer Price Index in 75 urban areas, not seasonally adjusted. BLS advises using them for the price level in a month and the CPI for price change over time. October 2025 was not collected during the federal government shutdown. Electricity prices are collected each month for BLS by the Department of Energy in the same urban areas, and include taxes and fuel adjustments. This is a monthly urban consumer price in dollars; electricity_price_residential is the annual EIA average revenue per kWh from residential customers, by state, in cents.
