- Note: suicide_rate (WHO) is a crude rate adjusted by WHO for under-reporting, so the two series differ. Age standardisation removes the effect of different age structures, so EU countries and regions can be compared with each other. US age-adjusted rates use the 2000 US standard population and are not comparable with these. Death certification and cause coding differ between countries, and Eurostat flags some values as following a different definition. Eurostat publishes these rates about two and a half years after the reference year.
