- Note: Fuel bought by power plants is subtracted so that electricity is counted once, at its retail price. The United States figure includes net imports of coal coke that EIA does not allocate to states, so it can differ slightly from the sum of the states. Millions of current US dollars, not adjusted for inflation. An EIA State Energy Data System estimate: consumption of each fuel times its estimated price. Hydro, wind and solar power have no fuel cost and count only through the electricity they produce. The latest year is about 18 months old, and EIA revises earlier years with each release.
